Bamboo TK

Gestalta

In this class Gestalta teaches their Bamboo TK with their model Aleks.

This beautiful tie is an interesting hybrid between a TK and chest-loaded harness, and is suitable for face-down and face-up suspensions.

In the suspension line video Gestalta demonstrates a full Scorpion pose using her Bamboo TK. This comfortable but striking pose can be achieved with any chest harness of your choice in combination with the Hip Loader.

I've tried this on several people and found that loading it from the bamboo tends to pull the arms back to an unsustainable level. I've rewatched the video a few times and feel like her tension is about the same as mine. I oddly tried to load this from the top wraps as an experiment and had various different bottoms tell me it was much more sustainable. I also tried loading both top wrap and bamboo and found it still pulled the arms back quite a bit. Anyone have any thoughts on how Gestalta loads this vs. your experience loading it?

You should always adapt a tie according to your bottom(s) feedback and preferences! If you find that Gestalta's method doesn't suit your partner(s) then you should definitely use a better suited variation.

Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback here! We are happy to hear that you are enjoying this tie and that you could solve this issue to use it safely with your partner.

My bottom had similar feedback the first few times we tied this harness. After rewatching a few times I realized that I wasn’t catching the bamboo with my lower wraps. Gestalta mentions this common mistake while she’s tying it. Since then I’ve been catching the bamboo with the lower wraps, and my bottom no longer feels her arms being pulled back.

I really enjoy this tie and the aesthetics of the bamboo. My bottom really likes the bamboo for its load distribution. We have tied this tie at least 12 times in lab sessions, partials, and full suspension. Has anyone experienced any nerve issues with this tie? During our last full suspension my bottom experienced nerve impingement to her axillary nerve resulting in skin numbness across the regimental patch area of her shoulder. We feel that the impingement occurred under the overlap of the ropes in the upper wraps, which act as a spreader. I think this occurred because the combination of my upper wrap being a little bit high, sitting over the deltoid, and the overlap in the rope was too close to the armpit. This type of nerve impingement is difficult because the bottom doesn’t know it’s occurring. As a top, I know that the axillary nerve emerges from the brachial plexus in that area, but not that it was at risk of impingement from the top wrap. I believe that the overlap in the top wrap/spreader rope provides a pressure point that isn’t present in continuous top wraps without overlaps, and that a lower placement of the top wrap/spreader in the bamboo TK harness is therefore much more crucial because of the overlap which sits near the axillary nerve.

Thank you for sharing your experience with this issue here where other users can read and learn from it. You can always feel free to make modifications to the original structure in order to optimise it for your partner based on their feedback and your experience using a tie on them. Maybe you could try to use a different approach to the top wrap of this harness. Thank you again for sharing!

I am definitely adapting this part of the harness. This is also a good lesson to understand distribution of brachial plexus nerves outside of the armpit area, especially the axillary nerve, when tying other harness with similar construction.

Great harness, worked great for several models. Can this harness be used for a face-up suspension? With different hip harness, of course.
