Breaking Patterns Game
In this shibari class, Kissmedeadlydoll teaches the Breaking Patterns Game with her model Cutebutdeadly – an improvisational tying-with-a-twist exercise to play your way out of ropey ruts.
If you frequently find yourself repeating the same sequences in rope or struggling to discover new shapes in partial suspensions, Kissmedeadlydoll has got a game for you. Created for rope students already comfortable with suspensions and body manipulation, the Breaking Patterns Game adopts a “fuck-around-and-find-out” attitude to encourage you to explore new and different options as you tie. Play this game frequently and remember to “deny yourself access to the first choice you would make”.
In the first part of this course, Kissmedeadlydoll highlights some important rules and considerations for the game. This includes how to start and how to progress, disregarding your Choice A and maybe even Choice B to introduce more experimentation to your rope.
In the next two videos, ‘Building the first shape’ and ‘Building the second shape’, Kissmedeadlydoll offers an unpractised and unplanned demonstration of how this off-the-cuff-tying game works and the very different results you can achieve each time you play. She also explains how to play “what if” before adding rope to the body, a fun technique for exploration that doesn’t limit your potential for new shapes.
Finally, Kissmedeadlydoll and Cutebutdeadly share a debrief and feedback session. After all, this game is an opportunity for both riggers and bottoms, to make new shapes and to feel new shapes respectively, and to find new tying pathways together.
This shibari course is aimed at practitioners who already have suspension experience and are looking to get more creative with these skills. Please be mindful of your own skillset when applying any techniques from this collection to your practice.
