Intro To Hashira

In this series, Tamandua and his model Mie Neko present an intro to Hashira Shibari (tying on a vertical beam), highlighting some of the special considerations needed when learning this challenging technique, two options for anchor points on a vertical beam, and three tutorials with variations of floor-based positions.

The 'Perpendicular Anchor' and 'Vertical Anchor' videos demonstrate two anchor points: one making use of horizontal or perpendicular beams that extend from the top of the vertical beam and one that ties directly onto the vertical beam, meaning that your play can be as varied as your architecture.

As Hashira makes its debut on Shibari Study with this series, we begin with floor-based foundation ties suitable for practitioners of all levels but who are new to Hashira Shibari. In the 'Simple Hashira' tutorial, Tamandua demonstrates how just a crotch rope and wrist cuff can be utilized to create a basic yet beautiful tie as well as explaining some of the unique safety tips to keep in mind when tying on a vertical post.

The second Hashira tutorial, 'Ebi Hashira', marries the traditional ebi ('shrimp') shape with the sturdiness of the beam for a low semi-suspension that elevates the bottom’s legs for an exposing and sustainable final position. For more practiced riggers, Tamandua’s 'Inverted Ebi' gives the classic ebi shape a more demanding twist with an upside-down and compressed semi-suspension that cinches the waist tightly to the beam. The final position will give an intense challenge to the model and focuses on vulnerability and exposure, making it ideal for engaging play. For expert level riggers with prior experience with tying on Hashira, you might try to elevate this one until the model is fully suspended.
