Dense Rope

hua hua

In this shibari course, hua hua teaches an advanced style of heavy rope bondage she calls Dense Rope with her model Dantianshi.

Heavy bondage is all about intentionally creating intensely restrictive sensations. In ropes, this can mean building up highly compressive ties by applying plenty of rope to the body – hence, ‘dense’ rope. As hua hua explains, this type of bondage is great for people who enjoy the sensations of swaddling or mummification. However, because so much rope is used and the tie takes so long to build, tension control is essential, as is understanding the risks of being in ropes for a significant period of time.

In the first class, hua hua demonstrates how to start this full-body bondage, working up from the feet to the shoulders (or even applying face rope, if desired). As she ties, hua hua also explains the best technique and approach for building up this challenging tie, including tips and tricks for where to place rope joins and how to approach spacing and tension to achieve that maximalist effect. After all, the way you build the tie is key to keeping things as sustainable as possible for as long as possible.

In the second class, the upper body is tied too. As hua hua explains, as you begin to build on the chest, it becomes harder for the person in ropes to breathe comfortably, while the legs are able to withstand more pressure for longer periods. Be mindful with how you approach this tie as it takes a long time to tie and to untie.

This Dense Rope style is recommended for advanced riggers and bottoms only. This type of play should be approached with intention and awareness of the risks involved.
