In this shibari course, Fuoco takes a deep dive into one of the most widely used and important fundamental ties in shibari with her model Cat: the single-column tie (SCT).

Whether you’re still fairly new to shibari or you’ve been tying for a while, the single-column tie is likely one of the first ties you learnt and an invaluable building block in your rope practice. This four-part course is all about understanding how that building block works in order to use it as effectively as possible and ultimately make your single-column ties more robust and reinforced. The first class explores collapsible ties and parallel directionality. Square knot, granny knot, reef knot… Whatever you call them, this one is all about collapsible single-column ties and how your running line moves out of your cuff at a parallel.

Now that you’ve got the hang of parallel directionality, let’s add a twist. The second class is all about collapsible ties and perpendicular directionality and how to build sturdier ties when your running line takes a turn out of your cuff.

In the third class, Fuoco explores non-collapsible ties and perpendicular directionality, explaining why tying with directionality in mind still matters when you’re using Somerville bowlines or other forms of non-collapsible single-column tie.

Finally, in the last part of the course, it’s time for a game of Single-Column Tie Twister to test your skills.

This course is suitable for all levels, though some confidence with rope handling and experience tying single-column ties is beneficial.
