Lacing Forearm Binder Partial Suspension

Bänana

In this shibari tutorial, Bänana teaches a Lacing Forearm Binder Partial Suspension with her model Marion.

Many of the suspensions we see in shibari rely on chest harnesses to bind the arms and upper body. But does that mean we need rope on the chest? Not necessarily. As Bänana demonstrates in this floor-level partial suspension, there are creative ways to bind the hands and suspend the upper body without using any rope on the chest. While tying this way might be beneficial or even necessary for some, excluding the chest also comes with its own challenges, says Bänana, and will require some adjustments and adaptations, particularly in terms of movement and body handling.

In the first class, Bänana demonstrates how to tie the lacing forearm binder, so as to avoid slipping and create a tie stable enough to attach a suspension line. Importantly, she also speaks about blood circulation and nerves, detailing sensations to expect and risk areas to avoid for safer, more risk-aware tying.

In the second class, Bänana combines the lacing forearm binder taught in the first video with a futomomo to begin exploring a partial suspension. Offering advice for how to gradually lift and compact elements of the tie, Bänana explains that once you understand the techniques taught in this class, there are plenty of possibilities for utilizing these two harnesses together for partial suspensions.

This shibari tutorial is suitable for intermediate and advanced students who already have some suspension and upline handling experience. Always remember to keep your skill set in mind when applying techniques from any Shibari Study class to your own rope practice.
