Mermaid Tie

In this rope bondage tutorial, Gigi teaches a modified version of the Mermaid Tie on their model Cait.

As Gigi explains, this tie is wonderfully suited to inversions in suspension, creating a beautiful backbend while also offering plenty of support. This version of the Mermaid Tie takes that sustainability for the model a step further, as is detailed in the first video, with additional support built into the back and kannukis to stabilize the lines and prevent them from sliding in suspensions.

The second part of this shibari class focuses on suspension lines and how best to load the tie to take it from floor-play to flying. This versatile lower body tie can be paired with many types of chest harness, with Gigi offering suggestions of some of their favorite ties to use together with it.

This shibari tutorial is suitable for intermediate students and models of all body types and flexibility levels. Please keep your skill set in mind and only attempt to use it for suspensions if you already have some prior experience.
