Mid-Air Futomomos

Fuoco

In this step-by-step shibari tutorial series, Fuoco explores how to gain confidence tying futomomos in mid-air with her model Enna.

Being able to apply a harness in the middle of a transition scene while your model is suspended is an incredibly useful skill as your rope bondage practice advances. It’s a tool that allows for both longer scenes and better quality of scenes by increasing your options, expanding opportunities for release and relaxation, and – ultimately – helping you develop dynamic tying that will add to the sustainability of your suspension sequences. That is, provided you’re able to do it both well and quickly enough for your model to benefit. However, as you will learn in this two-part futomomo-focused course, tying in the air is very different to tying on the ground and there are numerous variables to consider and account for.

In the first video, Fuoco presents some exercises for tying a futomomo in mid-air with your model in a side suspension. While ungrounded, this is generally a position that doesn’t require a high level of endurance, and gives the option of applying the futomomo to either the top or bottom leg. This class explores how these factors may influence your tying and how to navigate any challenges that arise.

In the second video, you will learn how to practice mid-air futomomos from a more challenging kata-ashi position, which – like the previous drill – comes with its own considerations to manage as you tie.

This class is intended for advanced shibari learners only. These exercises have been developed to help you increase your confidence as you tie in mid-air, so we recommend taking your time to give each drill ample practice and attention. If your skill set is not suitable to safely attempt this course, feel free to watch the class for inspiration but do not follow along.
