One-Rope Performance With hua hua And Dantianshi (FREE)

In this spellbinding shibari performance, hua hua and her rope partner Dantianshi demonstrate the connective power of one-rope play.

“‘Ipponnawa’ means ‘one rope’,” explains hua hua. “Beyond the literal meaning, ipponnawa is a concept in shibari that was developed by the late master Yukimura Haruki. With one rope, the primary focus of the play is in its attention to communication and the interaction between each other to guide the scene. With this minimalistic approach to tying, one must make the most of every inch of the rope, and be more mindful about where you place the ropes. Ipponnawa is a reminder that you do not need much to have a profound and powerful experience in ropes.”

Playing with sensation, pacing, and closeness and distance, the performance offers an intimate glimpse of how even just one rope can be used with intent and purpose for immersive rope scenes. The performance is followed by a feedback interview with hua hua and Dantianshi as they discuss their impressions of the session.
