Physical Rope: Suspension
In this shibari class, Tifereth continues her 'Physical Rope' series, this time teaching her hands-on style of rope in suspension with her model Irkalla.
This suspension-focused final installment of Tifereth's 'Physical Rope' series comes with a seemingly simple objective – to “smoosh your partner around between two stable points”. As Tifereth explains, you don’t have to touch even a single upline to create dramatically different shapes and experiences; instead, maximize what you’ve already tied by looking for gaps, utilizing the concepts of ‘leaning’ and ‘stacking’, observing the way the body is already wanting to move, and getting hands-on to help it along. It’s all the fun flips, dynamic action and interpersonal connection of your flashiest suspension sequences, with only a fraction of the work (well, for the rigger anyway). This class? All about learning to do it safely and with a “modicum of grace and style”.
Before you start flinging your tying partner around in space, familiarize yourself with the pre-requisites for this class. It’s essential to have worked your way through both Physical Rope: Ground and Physical Rope: Partials and to deeply understand how the body wants to move on these levels. Both tying partners should have plenty of suspension experience and the person doing the tying should be confident in both the harnesses they choose (more on Tifereth's choices in the class) as well as their suspension lines. Keep your skill set in mind when applying techniques from this class and only take your physical rope skills airborne if that is already a part of your rope practice
