Rolling The Dice

Lief Bound and Icarus

In this shibari tutorial, Lief and Icky share Rolling the Dice, another fun labbing-for-better-rope game, this time using dice to help you practice better body manipulation and get more creative in rope.

It’s time to take overthinking out of your rope and leave it to a roll of the dice. While memorizing various patterns and harnesses has its place in shibari, this playful game challenges riggers and bottoms to be creative, reimagine how various parts of the body can be connected, and get flexible (sometimes even literally). As Lief and Icky explain, each side of the dice correlates with a different body part – which parts is up to you and how you tie them together after rolling your dice is definitely up to you. Remember that you’re allowed to veto the dice too: if something doesn’t feel doable for whatever reason, you can always roll again.

This exercise is suitable for all levels, as long as you allow your own skill set to guide you. Thinking outside the box in your rope practice is a valuable skill at every level.

I incorporated this game at the end of my very first introduction workshop. People were invited to tie the two body parts together using the building blocks they had just learned. It was fun. Thank you for the inspiration 🙏
