The Power of Leverages

Ena Dahl and Roxu

Part of Rebound Week! This session is making a special return until September 28.

A tool for inviting intentional movement

Class type: Demonstration and tie along
Duration: 60 minutes
Props: 1 rope (7-8 metres), note-taking tools optional

In this body mechanics and rope handling focused class, Roxu and Ena will guide you through the art of using leverages to move the body with ease, efficiency, and intention. Through thoughtful rope placement and body mechanics, you’ll discover how leverage transforms your tying into a powerful tool for play.

In the course of the class, we will explore two different directions/techniques. First, we will utilize leverages in the body (arms, legs, hands, feet, fingers and toes), applying controlled and careful force to the rigid structures (bones and joints) to invite movement in the body. Active participation and a willingness to move from the bottom side is required in order not to cause harm. Next, we move onto using rope as well as our bodies’ relative placement to each other to create leverages while placing the rope. We’ll be working with a single rope to create wraps that offer both control and the potential for impactful movement.

The content taught in this class is suitable for most levels, but good partner communication and body awareness are highly recommended. Rope bottoms should be confident with some degree of active bottoming.
