Tying Slowly

hua hua

In this three-part shibari course, hua hua discusses the many benefits of tying slowly with her model Olivia.

Impactful rope bondage is about more than just technical skill. Rope handling, pacing, being able to read your rope partner’s reactions and being able to respond accordingly are important elements that can all affect the flow and feel of a scene. In this class, hua hua makes a case for slowing down when you tie – to make space for observing, for ongoing consent, for finding inspiration, for processing and for being able to identify when a tie may need to be modified or changed – and offers suggestions of when and where to pause. As hua hua explains, intentionally slowing your pace is not only a powerful tool for creating a more intense mood, it also helps to mitigate some of the communication and safety issues that may arise from tying in a rush.

This class is applicable to all levels, from beginner to expert. Every practice can benefit from a more intentional and nuanced approach to tying; how and where you apply it will depend on your own skill set, so remain mindful of where you are at and allow this class to inspire you accordingly.
