Bamboo Arm Ties
In this step-by-step shibari course, Tamandua and his model Briki teach two arm ties utilizing bamboo on the body and using the principles of semenawa or ‘tormenting rope’.
In the first video, Tamandua teaches a minimalist tengu tie. This version of the chest-opening tie requires very little rope and, instead, uses a piece of bamboo to maintain a vulnerable and exposing position.
In the second video, Tamandua demonstrates how a piece of bamboo can be incorporated into an asymmetrical teppo (‘rifle’) tie, so helping to more strictly enforce the position of the tie.
These ties and positions are perfect to implement semenawa into your practice if you do not have a suspension point or prefer floor play.
Although there is no suspension involved in those ties, they are not suitable for beginners as they involve a certain level of technical and emotional experience to be performed and experienced safely.
