Fitness For Hyper Mobility (FREE)

Fuoco

Designed with the needs of hyper-mobile students in mind, in this body care and movement class for bendy bottoms, Fuoco walks us through training and strengthening for hypermobility.

Hypermobility simply means that you have a greater range of motion in some or all of your joints than most people and you can extend them easily and painlessly beyond what most others can – it’s frequently referred to as being “double-jointed” (no double joints involved though).

But wait, that sounds perfect for Shibari? The reality is although you’ll often hear of bottoms thinking that they’re not flexible enough for ropes, the other side of the suppleness spectrum isn’t necessarily all neat party tricks and contortions either. Those models whose flexibility is beyond the normal range – who are hypermobile – can sometimes be more susceptible to injury and joint dislocation than their less bendy counterparts.

This class will help you develop joint stability to support your active bottoming skills and protect your body on the long run. If this style of work is new to you, expect it to be frustrating at first. For many people, this will be the first time that you've asked your body to work in this way, and it's likely that you'll spend several sessions feeling like you're not making any progress at all when, in fact, you're building the brain-body connection necessary to perform these exercises.

Thank you Fuoco and the Shibari Study team for making access to this information a free part of your website. The consideration and detail of people's wellbeing Fuoco demonstrates throughout this video combined with not keeping it behind a paywall is so extremely encouraging and valuable. Thank you, again!
