Anansi

Anansi (she/her) believes that rope is an intimate exchange and that exchange doesn’t always require an undertone of seriousness, preferring instead sensuality, attunement and fun. Rope can be playful and even induce laughter rather than enforcing traditional, exclusionary power dynamics.

Anansi’s physicality is a major component to her connective tying style. A rope switch who adores getting tied, tying others, and tying herself, Anansi uses rope as a tool to establish and express connection between herself and the person she’s tying with.

Since 2018, she has been sharing the knowledge she’s gained studying shibari with local groups in Michigan, other POC, and queers. Beginning as a bottom, Anansi studied in Detroit, attended cons in New York and Chicago, events in France, and presented in Atlanta, connecting with other shibari practitioners and honing her skill set via self-suspension. She has put these skills on display, building a social media following with the establishment of MyRopeRoom in 2020, where her efforts have been recognized and admired in the global rope community, leading to more outreach and opportunities.

Anansi is building a BiPOC and queer community in the Detroit rope scene with plans to open a community space centering queer and diverse bodies in rope and tying in the near future.
