In this course, Fred Hatt teaches the 'Bones & Ropes Third Rope' with his model Mio.

This third rope pattern is designed specifically for face-up suspensions and can be used on any upper body harness. Fred shows 3 examples of its application on a TK, Chest Harness and Armbinder. The suspension line method demonstrated on the TK can be used on all other types of harness.

It is very robust, works on most body types and allows the loading to be on the chest instead of the arms, for safer face-up suspensions. However it does create quite a lot of restriction on the breathing, so you might have to adjust tensions and placements to suit your partner's preference.

    Thank you for this video. I tried this with a model. First the rope was to low and was pinching the skin. I put the rope a bit higher. The model was able to support this suspension about only one minute. She told me it didn't hurt but was very uncomfortable. I do not know if my rope was again too low or if there was something else. How can I know?

      ShibariStudy By contrast, I learned this in person at Ropecraft as part of class and most bottoms I use this with can maintain it for a very long time. I use it for slackline transitions more than the previous upper body tie I used for years for slackline. I will say, with the third line especially, if not placed properly and at the proper tension, it can be painful so its not a forgiving tie but done right it seems to be very sustainable.

    The video is rushed and not paying attention to details making it hard to follow. Important elements are often covered with rigger's hand and there are no additional takes that would clarify those elements. So nice as demonstration, bad as an instructional video.
